Jamie Oliver is making his big-screen debut as the voice of a morose restaurant inspector in the year's most original comedy, Disney/ Pixar's RATATOUILLE which will be the first choice film for families when it opens across the UK on 12th October.
RATATOUILLE is the story of Remy, a rat in Paris who dreams of being a gourmet chef in a top French restaurant.
In one scene, Jamie's glum health inspector is gagged, tied up and thrown into cold storage by angry rats.
Jamie said: 'I probably got the most miserable character in the whole of the film, which is obviously different from me in real life. He's totally bored with life. It's the first time I have been asked to do anything which is totally not me.'
'My motivation for doing this film was my kids. When this film comes out, they are going to love it.'
'I can see myself in Remy the rat a little bit, I think the message to the world out there is have a go, get amongst it, give it a bash and actually you might surprise yourself and be brilliant. You don't have to be born a cook, just get involved and have a go.'
Jamie's comments support the key message in the film which is 'Anyone can cook'. Remy would rather go hungry than eat junk food and he is inspiring school kids around the country to imitate his healthy eating habits and make good food choices.
Food critics and other chefs have praised the film for its 'mouthwatering realism'. Jay Rayner from the Observer says 'RATATOUILLE' is the first big-budget Hollywood picture to put the food right at the heart of the action and to give a realistic portrait of what stove life is like.'
